HORACE VERNET "BATTLE OF SOMOSIERRA"

Napoleon Bonaparte is subjugating Europe. Participation in the Napoleonic Wars gives Poles hope for the overthrow of the Partitioning powers and the regaining of independence. The heroic and self-sacrificial fight of the Poles in Napoleon’s army gained immortal fame, thanks to deeds including the charge in Somosierra Gorge in November 1808.

The painting is part of the collection of the National Museum in Warsaw.
