The play is inspired by the biography of Simona Kossak, but the events it depicts are a product of the author's imagination. Simona Kossak was an extraordinary person. Her father, Jerzy; grandfather, Wojciech; and great-grandfather, Juliusz, were renowned Polish landscape and battle-scene painters. Simona broke with the family tradition and did not become the "fourth Kossak", but chose her own, unique path. She left her native Krakow to live for over thirty years in a wooden forester's lodge in the middle of the Białowieża Forest, without running water or electricity. She was a scientist, environmentalist, filmmaker and radio personality. Elżbieta Chowaniec’s text is not a biography but a poetic parable about searching for one's place in the world, about rebellion and the struggle to be oneself against all odds. It is a parable about a woman who stayed true to her belief that people need to coexist with nature. Totally devoted to her passion, she tried to find her place in the world of animals and plants, a place she could not find among her own kind.
