THE FACILITY

Summary:

A grotesque fable about a penitentiary that turns out to be a haven of freedom. While visiting his brother in jail, the protagonist gradually discovers that its inmates are incarcerated there of their own free will. The facility's rules and resocialisation activities give their lives a meaning and order that had been beyond their reach on the outside. Isolation from the hardships of everyday life, with all its economic and political aspects, allows them to enjoy inner peace and freedom. But is this Utopian world of mandatory freedom not merely another form of social oppression? The play won Third Prize in the ZAiKS Authors' Association and WFDiF playwriting competition for TEATROTEKA.
